Work Shower

My group at work took Kirk and I out to a nice lunch at Farallon Restaurant at Union Square. The restaurant mistakenly printed "Laurie & Mike Johnston's Baby Shower" on the menu, so that was the running joke for the whole event.

My group was very generous and gave us a Babies R Us gift certificate with the front of the card labeled "Laurie & Mike."

At my 36 week doctor's visit this morning we were happy to learn that the baby is in the head down position with a strong heartbeat in the 140's.

Johnston/Buessing Baby Shower

Ann's sisters Mimi and Audrey threw me and baby Johnston a baby shower at Ann's (Grandma J) house in Stockton. Kirk's family from the Johnston and Buessing sides as well as family friends showered us with lots of great fun and baby gifts. We are now ready for this baby to come (at least in terms of gear).

We played fun games including guess the type of chocolate bar...there were melted chocolate bars in diapers which looked realistically like poop. Everyone also had to guess the size of my belly, which turned out to be 39 inches (wow, more than I wanted to know).

Audrey treated us to yummy home-made taco salads - even the taco shells and tortilla chips were home-made. Ann's sisters surprised her with a granny gift including a house-coat, granny glasses, shower cap, knee-highs and a pull cart. Ann was a good sport and put it all on while uncontrollably laughing the whole time. I decided to be nice and not post those photos!!!

The Johnston guys (Cliff, Kirk and Eric) were hard at work fixing the back fence while we were having a good time. We let them take a break and enjoy taco salads too! :)

Only 5 more weeks until our due date!

plaster, paint...progress at last.

With 7 more weeks to go we are finally seeing some progress on the baby room and the home improvement projects. The ceiling texture work was completed this week and the rooms are now ready for paint. We had decided on colors for both the baby room and the guest room and tried some samples but they came out darker than we expected. So we did some adjustments to the colors and now we are set to go. This week we have an electrician coming by to hook up some new lights in the room and a new ceiling fan.
Yesterday we went to a day long childbirth class where we learned even more about the process and saw a few videos. We learned a lot at the class, but it also made us a bit more anxious about what to expect. Good thing we had read a lot prior to going so we had a pretty good idea of what to expect. It was funny that out of all the couples at the childbirth class (about 20 or so) there were only two couples (us and someone else) who had not found out the sex of their baby and wanted to be surprised.
